Haugesund
Haugesund is the regional centre for 100 000 Haugalanders and is one of Norway’s leading shopping destinations. The rich herring shoals along the coast of western Norway laid the foundation for the development of Haugesund, turning the town into an important exporter of herring and later into one of Norway’s largest shipping centres. Today the maritime industry remains Haugesund’s largest mercantile sector, and it is also where the Norwegian Headquarters.
Haugesund holds festivals and cultural arrangements for all age groups throughout the year. The two largest festivals take place in August: Sildajazz Festival and The Norwegian Film Festival. Hotels, cafés, restaurants, and pubs adorn the Indre Kai quay. Here you can take a stroll and inhale the fresh sea air, or stop for a cup of coffee or an exquisite meal. The island of Røvær has been inhabited since the Stone Age and is today a popular tourist destination. The trip takes 25 minutes by ferry from Indre Kai quay. The outdoor amenity on Vibrandsøy is a stone’s throw from the Indre Kai quay, you will need access to own boat to visit the island.
