Climb Via Ferrata Kyrkjeveggen in Åkrafjord, perhaps one of the toughest routes in Norway. When you reach the top wou will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the fjord. You can also try the more family friendly route Via Ferrata Ingadalen.
Viking Adventure offers a wide range of exciting activities. Explore Haugesund and its surroundings by RIB - from different island communities to the town’s rich history. Hike to the top of the spectacular Langfoss waterfall and enjoy the beautiful view of the fjord. The hike is demanding and takes about 4 hours total. You can do the hike by yourself or with an experienced guide from Åkrafjorden Oppleving.
Stroll the popular coastal path slightly north of Haugesund city centre. On your way you will pass Norway's national monument Haraldshaugen, Kvalen Lighthouse and the exhibition “The rising tide” by Jason DeCaires Taylor.
From charming local stores to the well-known brands, in Haugesund city centre you will find everything you need and more! Make sure to visit Formbar Glassverksted, a combined studio, workshop and gallery in the city centre. And when you need a coffee break - Hos Carlos is the place to visit!
The Karmøy beaches is the perfect place for surfing or kiting. Or if you want a more calm activity, exploring the coast from a SUP is perfect. Raw Ocean Lodge offers both SUP and Surf classes, they also have boards for rent.
During the summer you may board a fjordcruise in the breathtaking Åkrafjord. The spectacular Langfoss waterfall is one of the highlights on the tour. See Åkrafjorden Oppleving for more information.
A perfect family activity. The park is located in Nedstrand, about 50 minutes by car from Haugesund. Høyt & Lavt in Nedstrand has five courses with a total of 78 elements, and has Norway’s only 304-meter Zip-line with a fjord view. In these beautiful surroundings, you will also find grill and picnic areas.
The canyoning takes place a Smielva at Rullestad. The trip starts calmly with hiking, wading and some climbing. Eventually you have to rappel down several waterfalls and climb a 60 meter long Via Ferrata route. Canyoning also includes some jumping into pools and swimming. A fun and family friendly activity that suits everyone. Clues, riddles and different tasks have to be solved within one hour to break out of the room. Escape Haugesund offers 3 different rooms for groups of 3-6 persons.
In our region you will find several interesting museums. Learn more about the history of Haugesund at Karmsund Civic Museum and Dokken Museum ( only open during summer). A visit to Arquebus War History Museum is highly recommended. This is one of Norway's largest military defense museums. Here you will find local history, detailed exhibitions and an impressive collection of objects from the period of German occupation of Norway 1940-45. Are you an art-lover? Then you should visit Haugesund Art Gallery. The museum has a large collection of Norwegian art from the 1800s to the 2000s. Through funds and grants, new works are added every year. As well as international and national artists, local artists are well represented in the collection.
Visit Avaldsnes - the place where the vikings used to live and where the Viking Kings had their royal seat. For 3000 years chieftains and kings controlled the strait Karmsundet – Nordvegen – the shipping lane that gave Norway its name. At Nordvegen History Centre you can learn about the sovereigns that controlled the coast of Norway from Avaldsnes. Some of them are known from kings’ sagas and old songs, others are known from archaeology. At Avaldsnes you may also visit St. Olav's Church and The Viking farm.
