Public Transport Directions

If you have your own car, you can either take the ferry or drive through Sirdal to Lysebotn (closed road during winter from around October to May/June, contact Statens vegvesen, phone 175). Parking: There is a parking with a fee at Øygardstøl.
During summer you can get to Kjerag by taking the tourist car ferry (The Fjords) to Lysebotn and then go by car or taxi further up to Øygardstøl, the starting point of the trip. During the summer time, Go Fjords offer express bus service from Stavanger to Øygardstøl, the starting point of the hike.

  • Practical information - Equipment: Clothing: Preferably wool closest to body, then fleece and then windproof jacket. Bring rainproof clothing, hat, gloves and spare change. It is important to have sturdy footwear - use hiking/mountain boots. Pack enough food and drink adapted to length of your hike. First aid kit. Bring your phone, but remember that you might not have reception at all times

  • Warning - Be prepared for all types of weather in the mountains, even in summer. This is why you must bring clothing and equipment apt for sunny and nice weather, but also account for snow, rain and heavy wind. The weather can change rapidly. See www.yr.no for weather forecast. NB! Do not hike to Kjerag in the winter! Main season is June to September. Always hike with a nature guide off season.
